Prolonged stays in hospital, medical procedures, disruption of familiar routines, and separation from home can be emotionally challenging for children. That is why, alongside medical care, it is important to create an environment where a child can rest, reduce tension, shift their attention, and feel safe.

The new mental recovery room, located at the Center for Medical-Psychological and Social Rehabilitation of Children at the National Children’s Specialized Hospital “OKHMATDYT,” is intended to become such a space.

The room is equipped with sensory and multimedia technologies that create conditions for relaxation, emotional calming, and recovery. The environment can be adapted to different needs — from reducing sensory overload to activities that help children learn, shift their attention, and restore psychological resources.

For the Krona Charitable Foundation, supporting this project is another step toward making care for children in hospital more comprehensive.

We want a healthcare facility to provide a place not only for treating illness, but also for helping children recover — regain a sense of safety and their ability to cope with the challenging experience of hospitalization,” says Olena Matsibokh, Chair of the Board of the Krona Charitable Foundation.

This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of the international foundation Kinder Kanker Genezing (KKG). For nine years, KKG has been working together with Krona to support Ukrainian children undergoing treatment for cancer.
