Improving Access to Medical Services

Krona, with the support of the Swiss Development Organization, is creating a barrier-free environment in rural clinics of the Kharkiv region

Due to the war, most young people and families with children have left the frontline areas. Villages are predominantly inhabited by elderly people and individuals with disabilities.

In particular, about 14,000 people live in the villages of the Blyznyuky community in the Kharkiv region. The villages are scattered at a considerable distance from regional and district centers. It is difficult and dangerous for people to reach central hospitals. General practice family medicine clinics are where they can receive medical and psychological assistance. The clinics have a pharmacy, a family doctor, a dentist’s office once a week, and specialists from the district central hospital.

The accessibility of such infrastructure for people with mobility difficulties is a very pressing issue. Therefore, we are equipping clinics in the villages of Samiylivka and Velyka Samara in the Kharkiv region with ramps, inclusive restrooms, and passageways according to accessibility standards for healthcare facilities for people with disabilities.

The project ‘Accessibility of Medical Services for Residents of Remote Villages in the Blyznyuky Community of the Kharkiv Region’ is implemented by the Krona AUCF with the support of HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation within the project ‘Supporting Community Recovery in Eastern Ukraine’ funded by Swiss Solidarity.
